r. Teo-Koh, a tenured academic staff of the university, is an experienced educator with over 20 years of teacher education experience in Singapore. The numerous awards won by Dr Teo-Koh include: 2008 20 Years Long Service Award, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 2004 15 Years Long Service Award, Ministry of Community Development & Sports, Singapore 1996 Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Singapore Foundation Education Award 1991 NTU Staff Development Award 1985 Harold Hayward Parlee Memorial Fellowship, University of Alberta, Canada 1983 University of Alberta Alumni Gold Medal in Physical Education & Recreation Awarded to Top Student of Graduating class, University of Alberta, Canada 1982 Board of Governors Prize in Physical Education & Recreation, University of Alberta, Canada University of Alberta Undergraduate Prize, University of Alberta, Canada 1982 – 1984 Lee Foundation Study Grant Award, Singapore 1979 Public Spiritedness & Service to the Institute Award, National Institute of Education, Singapore Dr Teo-Koh has previously served as Vice-Dean of the School of Physical Education, Associate Dean for Physical Education Programs and Head of the Physical Education & Sports Science Department at the National Institute of Education (NIE). She also completed a Visiting Fellow attachment at the College of Physical Education, Recreation and Health, Indiana University, USA from August 2004 to May 2005. Her teaching and research interests include Adapted Physical Activity, Growth & Motor Development, Women & Sport, and Teaching Games for Understanding (Games Concept Approach). She is also a specialist movement consultant for preschool movement programs for children with and without disabilities. Dr Teo-Koh has been invited as keynote speaker for numerous local and international conferences and workshops. Dr Teo-Koh has been actively serving the community, internationally and locally. Dr Teo-Koh has contributed significantly to the Special Olympics movement internationally and locally. She is a certified Special Olympics Regional Trainer for the Asia –Pacific region; was a member of the Special Olympics International Rules Committee (1989 – 1992); member of the 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games Evaluation Team; member of the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Council Steering Committee and Specific Olympics Asia-Pacific Training and Coaching Committee. She was Head of Delegation for the Special Olympics Singapore teams to the 1995 and 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games. She was also commissioned by the Singapore Disability Sports Council in 1997 to chair a task force that examined Programme and Athlete Development for athletes with disabilities in Singapore, submitting a final report, “Training and Development of Athletes with Disabilities” that became part of the SDSC’s Disability Sport 2000: A Blueprint for the New Millenium document. For her voluntary service and exemplary work in education and with individuals with special needs, Dr Teo-Koh was awarded the prestigious Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Singapore Foundation Education Award in 1996. |
